FDA approves the first dental robot navigation system Yomi

Release date: 2017-03-10

Neocis, a robotic medical device developer, recently announced that its Yomi robotic navigation system has been approved by the FDA 510(k) for use in dental implant surgery, the first FDA-approved auxiliary system for this type of work.

The only FDA-approved dental surgical robot system

Neocis is a privately held company headquartered in Miami, Florida, established in 2012 and received a $1.32 million round of financing in August 2014. Its core product is Yomi, a computerized navigation system designed to help surgeons perform dental implants before and during surgery.

The Yomi robotic system can accurately set the surgical procedure and provide a visual interface to the doctor.

The system is operated by haptic robot technology to guide the surgical instruments and constrain the drill bit in direction and depth. Tactile robotics can provide physical guidance on the position, orientation and depth of the drill bit. Unlike plastic surgical catheters, Yomi allows doctors to visualize the surgical site and meet the flexibility of changing the schedule in real time during their surgery.

When used by a dentist, Yomi develops a surgical procedure based on the patient's CT scan. During the procedure, the system continuously tracks the patient and, when the clinician advances the drill bit into the tissue, accurately controls the direction of the drill bit without deviating from the planned position and depth.

Next step to more surgeons

Dental implant surgery is the standard of care for replacing missing teeth. In the United States, nearly 15,000 dental specialists and nearly 150,000 general dentists complete nearly 4 million implant operations each year. Worldwide, there are more than 15 million plantings per year. Obviously, the surgical robot market is growing rapidly and the demand is quite large. By 2021, the market is estimated to reach 20 billion US dollars. Yomi is the only surgical robot system dedicated to the dental industry, and the prospects are limitless.

After obtaining FDA approval, Neocis co-founder Alon Mozes revealed: "We are very pleased that Yomi has achieved important milestones. Next we will show the benefits and convenience of the machine to more surgeons and patients, and let the dental industry give advice. The leader endorsed us.” At present, Dr. Federico Grande, an American dental professional, said that he is willing to show the reliability of the machine to his patients, let them try the most advanced methods of implanting teeth, and at the same time, inform the operation results. reliable.
