[Focus] The status quo and helplessness of domestic large-scale medical equipment

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Health and Family Planning Commission jointly held a symposium to promote the development and application of domestic medical equipment . In the past two years, the topic of domestic medical equipment development has been frequently mentioned, but in comprehensive hospitals, imported brands still firmly occupy the monopoly position of large equipment.

[Focus] The status quo and helplessness of domestic large-scale medical equipment

When the reporter visited, it was found that the lack of core technology of large-scale medical equipment in China, poor brand promotion and poor after-sales service made the hospital choose foreign brands when purchasing. Under these three reasons, the lack of long-term policy guidance is the domestic large-scale. It is difficult for medical equipment to enter the roots of the top three hospitals.

Status: guarding a huge market, but "cannot sell out"

Mr. Meng of Xi’an has been selling medical equipment for 16 years. In an interview, he mentioned his two peers. “Last year, they switched from Siemens and Toshiba to Shanghai, a large domestic medical equipment company to sell in large areas, less than one. I left the company every year because the equipment could not be sold."

Although Mr. Meng’s friends’ job-hopping experience is a case, it reflects the embarrassing situation faced by domestic large-scale medical equipment.

On the one hand, China's medical equipment has a huge market size. According to data from the Prospective Industry Research Institute, the size of China's medical equipment market in 2014 was 255.6 billion yuan, accounting for 7% of global sales, ranking second in the world.

On the other hand, it is difficult to see domestic brands in large-scale high-end equipment in third-class or even second-tier hospitals. According to data released last year by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, 80% of high-end medical devices used in China, 85% of high-end monitors, 85% of inspection instruments, 90% of ultrasonic instruments, magnetic resonance equipment, and electrocardiographs All are foreign brands.

The “absence” of domestic large-scale medical equipment in the top three hospitals has been a long-term problem. Ouyang (a pseudonym), who used to be a general surgeon at a top three hospital in Beijing, told reporters: “From entering the medical university to leaving the hospital for nearly 10 years. In the time, the high-end equipment I came across was almost no domestic ones."

Helpless: technology, promotion, after-sales overall backward, it is not easy to use domestically

When asked why they did not purchase large-scale domestic equipment, Cao Xiaoguang (a pseudonym), the head of the equipment department of a top three hospital in Guangzhou, gave the first reason that domestic equipment lacked core technology. He told reporters in his hospital that the basic standards for equipment procurement are safety, effectiveness, advancement and cost performance. Many domestic equipments have been eliminated in terms of “effectiveness” because of the lack of core technology.

"In the case of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, the core technologies of the domestically produced resonance instruments in hardware and operating systems are all foreign, and domestic companies only do assembly work; and the most advanced resonance instruments are not domestically produced at all. Of course, the hospital can only buy imports." Ouyang told reporters.

Core knowledge can't be mastered, and naturally it is impossible to talk about the promotion of brand technology. It is understood that every time a foreign advanced medical equipment company launches a new technology or a new product, it will be promoted at an international conference. These companies will also invite hospitals that have purchased their own equipment to participate in large-scale seminars to provide doctors with a platform for academic exchanges.

Cao Xiaoguang said that domestic medical equipment companies rarely provide such opportunities, and the right to speak global medical equipment is controlled by a few foreign brands.

The technology is not as good as people, the product sales are not good, the company can not be used as after-sales service, and the after-sales is exactly the point that the hospital is very concerned about when purchasing equipment. In the top three hospitals, a large number of patients go to the hospital every day. If the equipment fails to be processed in time, it is a big problem for the hospital and the patient.

Cao Xiaoguang made a comparison: "The equipment is faulty, the foreign brand's after-sales service will respond within 2 hours, and the maintenance personnel will arrive at the scene within 4 hours. Even if the parts need to be replaced, it will not be more than two days from repair to repair. However, domestic companies are limited by manpower and resources, and the time to resolve failures tends to be longer."

Insufficient technology, poor promotion, and poor after-sales, the three factors are interlocking, and ultimately lead to hospital and patient distrust of domestic medical equipment.

Fang Xiao (pseudonym), head of the marketing department of a domestic medical equipment company in Beijing, told the reporter very reluctantly that in the digital X-ray camera, his company has both independent intellectual property rights and quality comparable to foreign brands, but many of them are top three. The hospital still only chooses foreign brands.

Ouyang, who has worked in the hospital for many years, told reporters that there are some implantable devices. The quality of domestic brands has actually surpassed imported brands, and the price is relatively cheap, but as long as the economy can afford, patients will choose to import equipment.
