This new non-invasive technique can be used for any diagnosis based on cardiovascular and metabolic related diseases. Researchers at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom and the Gdansk Medical University in Poland have deciphered the fluctuations in the cerebrospinal fluid between the scalp and the skull.

Researchers at the Technical University of Gdansk in Poland developed a non-invasive translucent liquid recording device, followed by records from the Gdansk Medical University in Poland and the University of Regina in Canada. The method developed by physicists at Lancaster University has demonstrated that the circulation of this fluid throughout the brain is highly fluctuating, slower, and correlated by respiratory rhythm and heart rate.

The researchers found that some of these oscillations are related to blood pressure, but are usually slower and occur less frequently; they have been shown to be associated with vascular motion and blood oxygenation in previous studies.

Preliminary findings indicate that the consistency between these oscillations has declined in respondents over the age of 25, suggesting that brain aging may occur earlier than expected.

Professor Aneta Stefanovska from Lancaster University has studied bio-oscillation physics for more than 20 years.
